About DCIS Beginning Band...
Beginning Band is a full year elective in 6th grade. The primary focus is learning the fundamentals of playing an instrument, reading music, and developing good practice/study habits. We also learn music history and music from other cultures. We have 3 performances outside of the regular school day: 1 in the first semester and 2 in the second semester. Enrollment is open to all students. Information on private lessons is available upon request.

***IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE***
6th Grade is the only year beginning instruction is offered
for band in Deer Creek.
Students may not sign up for band as a beginner after 6th grade.
Exceptions are made for students who move into the district, but have previously participated in their prior schools’ band program.
In other words, now is the time to see if band is for you!!!

How Do I Join?
Select BAND as your FIRST CHOICE ELECTIVE on your course selection form.
Attend one of our Instrument Fairs. During this time, we will demonstrate each of the instruments. Each child will get to play the instruments and rank their top 3 choices. Together, we will decide which instrument is a great fit for your child!
The Beginning Band at Deer Creek consists of 5 instruments: flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. More is below about each of these instruments. Watch the videos below to find out more about each instrument!
Once all the data has been collected, the band staff will sort through all the results and send home a letter notifying you on which instrument your child has been placed!
